James Argent kick starts his liquid diet following life-saving gastric sleeve surgery

James Argent looks to have kick started his liquid only diet as he was spotted enjoying a bowl of soup during lunch with a pal on Monday.

The former TOWIE star, 33, who recently revealed he struggles to keep water down since his £10k sleeve gastrectomy op, was discharged from Burcot Hall Hospital in Bromsgrove earlier this month and looked happy and healthy at the lunch.

While James looked to be enjoying his meal, his pal seemed to be enjoying something from the star’s former diet, as he tucked into a full English breakfast.

James is already cutting a healthier frame as he emerged in a black tracksuit ahead of his lunch date with his fry-up eating pal.

Having opted for soup and water, he was already getting in the swing of his new lifestyle, as works toward shedding his weight.

James, whose weight crept up during the UK lockdowns due to junk food and takeaways, recently said he feared he would die during the 90 minute operation where 70% of his stomach was removed.

Detailing his ‘uncomfortable’ recovery, the singer explained that while he already knew that he wouldn’t be able to have solid food for six weeks, he has been struggling to keep water and paracetamol down.

The Jump star told The Sun: ‘It is quite scary when you’re just randomly being sick and you’re seeing lots of blood come up.

‘Just dealing with trapped wind is really uncomfortable. They encouraged me to keep burping to get wind out, but you can’t even fart.’

In the interview, Arg also touched on reconnecting with his childhood sweetheart Lydia Bright.

He added to the publication: ‘Me and Lydia are extremely close again — we have kept that low-key and behind closed doors. I’m very fond of Lydia. I’m lucky to have her in my life and for us to be such close friends.

‘Obviously she’s had a beautiful baby and she’s a single mother now. We were together years before Towie existed or before either of us were in the public eye. She’s a real friend and she and her mum have been an incredible support to me.’

James is also open to the possibility of finding love, insisting he is ‘completely single’ amid his on-off romance with Gemma Collins.

The Waltham Forest native also said he feels the surgery is a fresh start after his well-documented battle with an eating disorder and drug addiction – and is now setting his sights on swimming the English Channel.

A Sleeve gastrectomy staples off a portion of the stomach and removes the excess – effectively turning it from a pouch into a sleeve – reducing the amount of food that can be eaten.

The results are excellent, achieving up to 70 percent excess weight loss, just shy of the standard set by the gastric bypass.

Earlier this year, the musician described doctors’ stark warning about his weight as ‘very worrying’ while appearing on Good Morning Britain last month.

He said: ‘They’ve [doctors] basically been saying, the size I am at the moment, it could be fatal. If I was to catch Covid, I could be a goner.  It has been worrying. It’s been difficult putting on so much weight and obviously the fact I’ve got so big.

‘It kind of shows I haven’t been in the greatest of places. But I’m sitting here this morning, I’m feeling super positive.

‘I’ve got life-changing surgery, which is going to be taking place in the near future, it’s all booked up. I really feel like I’m making positive steps and I can’t wait to get back to my very best.’
