People usually see an unintended weight gain during the winter season, mostly due to reduced physical activity. The adverse cold conditions can make it difficult for you to go out and exercise. Meanwhile, our eating habits also shift, sometimes for the worse. 

Importance of healthy snacking during the winter season

Snacks play a very important role in keeping us healthy and fit. They comprise of smaller meals we have in between the main meals of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. One must ensure that these snacks are healthy, and only contribute in some way or the other to the larger health goal. If you do not consume healthy snacks, no amount of exercise or diet plans can help you lose weight and be healthy. Snacks should also be filling, which helps you avoid overeating when you have your main meals, which is one of the primary causes of weight gain. Healthy winter snacks to add to your diet

Sweet potatoes are a boon for diabetics as well due to their high dietary fibre content and low glycemic index. They help maintain blood sugar levels preventing their sudden spike. Winter season makes us more susceptible to common cold and coughs. Vitamins A and C content of sweet potatoes support our immune health, keeping infections at bay. 

Peanut brittle/ Chikki – Made with roasted peanut and jaggery, peanut chikki is one of the healthiest snacks one can opt for. Chikkis are also ideal to satisfy sweet food cravings. Peanuts are packed with good fats, protein and dietary fibre and in combination with jaggery, they give us an instant energy boost along with various micronutrients. 

Sesame / til chikki – Sesame chikki is another healthy winter snack to grab. Made with sesame or til seeds and jaggery, both the foods have warming effects on the body.
