Shoppers, many who were purged into Tier 4 yesterday scuppering their Christmas plans, were outraged to discover the shortage in festive poultry. Many customers have taken to social media to express their disappointment after seeing it was missing from their delivery and click and collect orders. The supermarket chain has responded to those affected with an apology. The panicked outcry was first reported by HullLive yesterday.
One tweet to Asda last night said: “Well I can’t even believe I am writing this but for the third year in a row you have not delivered our Christmas turkey.
“Our delivery is today and the turkey crown is not available and no substitution. We can no longer change our holiday order to add it.”
Another wrote: “A bit confused to be honest. Ordered a small Turkey Crown before the 11 Dec cut off date, for delivery on 23 Dec. I go to amend my order to add more items and the Turkey is out of stock?? Think we have enough problems this year without you adding to it.”
Both click and collect and home delivery orders have been affected, with some customers saying they had ordered their turkey well in advance.
One said: “Looks like it will be a vegan Christmas this year as Asda have removed the turkey from my click and collect order !! Im happy but not sure The kids will be !! The point of pre ordering was??????”
Another wrote: “Asda seems to be rather short on turkey this year. Did they forget to check when Christmas was?”
“Ordered a delivery last week for tomorrow, so much of it is now out of stock! Turkey too,” posted another shopper.
Asda has replied to tweets from the affected customers apologising.
One tweet from Asda said: “We always aim to have all of the items our customers’ order but deliveries are subject to availability on the morning they’re picked. We’ll always try to substitute something similar if an item is out of stock if the option is ticked.”
