The health benefits of fish oil

The American Heart Association recommends eating fatty fish such as wild-caught salmon, mackerel, herring, lake trout, sardines and albacore tuna, which are high in omega-3 fatty acids and safe for most people. However, they caution against eating large quantities of shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish and farm-raised salmon which may contain mercury and other environmental contaminants. Fish oil supplements can cause mild side effects such as burping, bad breath, heartburn and nausea, but taking them with food or freezing them can help alleviate these effects.
