The holidays are right around the corner and with them comes an onslaught of delicious food–great for your soul, but not so much your waistline if you’re trying to lose weight. Just because the merriest time of the year is quickly approaching, doesn’t mean you have to resign yourself to unhealthy habits for the next month. You can still indulge while maintaining a healthy balance, starting your day off with a meal that health experts recommend to stay on track and keep losing weight during the cold winter months.
The olive oil that could increase your lifespan
Eggs are the best breakfast staple to include in your diet while trying to lose weight, according to health coach Lindsey Catarino. Their high protein content makes for great fuel for your busy schedule and will keep you full for hours which will naturally aid in weight loss.
Catarino says, “I like to mix egg white mix with one or two eggs to lower the overall fat content but keep the taste.” While on the whole, eggs are filled with wonderful nutrients that will benefit your weight loss journey, the yolk is higher in fat than the white, so mixing the two allows for you to get a good dose of healthy fats without overdoing it.
If plain scrambled eggs aren’t up your alley, Catarino recommends considering a fun twist. “I like to take it up a notch by making a Mexican omelette or a corn tortilla breakfast taco with peppers, tomatoes, onions, and fresh cilantro. The more you can mix veggies with lean protein to start your day, the better.”
She explains that while carb heavy breakfasts can taste delicious, they will not keep you full and you’ll be left searching for more food within the hour which is not ideal for maintaining a calorie deficit.
Instead, integrating a carb like a tortilla or a piece of toast into your breakfast while focusing primarily on protein and veggies will maximize your energy stores and keep you full and focused all throughout the morning. By the time the holidays come around, you’ll feel fit and ready to take on the feasts with healthy habits firmly in place.
