These Teesside mams are beginning 2021 with a new lease of life after losing over 13 stone between them.
Georgie Mackinnon, Hayley Shotbolt and Lyndsey Emerson all lost weight during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
They used their time at home, during the national lockdown, to cook from scratch and took advantage of their daily exercise.
The Slimming World members continued to attend their groups virtually over zoom and weighed themselves at home.
They are now ending the year feeling happier, healthier and more confident than ever before.
Here’s how they did it:
The 31-year-old mum from Redcar has shed six stone since joining Slimming World in January 2020.
She decided to lose weight after viewing photographs of herself last Christmas and being left unhappy with what she saw.
When she first attended the Saturday morning group at Wheatlands Primary School in the town she tipped the scales at 20 stone 13.
Georgie, who is mum to Ethan, six, wore a size 22-24 trousers and a size 18-20 top.
Over the past 12 months, she has stuck to the food plan, cooked from scratch and enjoyed daily walks on the beach.
She swapped shop bought sandwiches and takeaways for home-cooked omlettes and bolognese and the pounds began to drop off.
Georgie, who works as a solicitor’s clerk, now weighs 14 stone 13. She wears size 14 trousers and a size 12 top.
She said: “When I was trying to do the washing I would be out of breath before I got to the top of the stairs and that’s not ok.
“I just didn’t have any energy, I was tired all the time. I feel like I have an awful lot more energy now.
“I lost the first two and a half stone without exercise then started walking and jogging. I haven’t been to the gym. We were going for walks pretty much everyday down the beach.
“It’s amazing being able to go shopping, you can actually look for things rather than order online and hope for the best.”
Georgie was thrilled that she was able to climb to the top of Roseberry Topping for the first time in years.
She said: “I would never be able to climb up Roseberry Topping last year.
“I haven’t managed to make it to the top since I was younger. I wouldn’t have tried it in the last two to three years, it wouldn’t have been achievable.
“I feel a lot different to how I felt last January.”
The 35-year-old mum lost four stone in 51 weeks after joining Slimming World in January 2020.
Hayley shed the pounds for her wedding after getting engaged to her fiancé Sam Bennett, 35, in New York.
She joined the Saturday morning group at Wheatlands Primary School in Redcar weighing 14 stone 9 and wearing size 16 clothes.
Hayley, who is mum to Libby Davison, 11, said: “In November 2019, two months before, I got engaged in New York.
“I remember looking at the pictures, I could tell I wasn’t comfortable about how I felt.
“I get married in October 2021. I said I would love to lose four stone by then.
“Lockdown helped me more. I felt that, because I couldn’t be in control of anything else, I could be in control of my diet.
“Before I was just eating convenience meals, grabbing what I could like toast with butter.
“I have just changed the way I eat and I cook things from scratch.
“In lockdown I did a lot of exercise with Sam and my daughter.”
Hayley said that people began noticing her weight loss in March and by the summer she had shed three stone.
She hit her target weight loss of four stone on December 12.
Hayley, who works as a access officer, now weighs 10 stone 9 and wears a size 10-12 clothes.
She said: “If you stick to plan 100% it works.
“I remember last Christmas being so uncomfortable. You could go out then and I struggled to find outfits to wear.
“This year I have got so many outfits and I haven’t got anywhere to go! I can’t stop buying clothes to wear.
“I feel so much more comfortable. The confidence you get when you lose weight is unbelievable.
“I feel so different. It was the best decision I have ever made.”
The mum-of-four has started working as a Slimming World consultant after losing three stone.
Lyndsey followed the eating plan during her third and fourth pregnancies and reached her target weight in May.
When she joined the group at The Robert Atkinson Centre in Thornaby in 2018, Lyndsey weighed 13 stone 1 and was a size 16-18.
The former bridal consultant, from Thornaby, is now 10 stone and wears size 10-12 clothes.
Lyndsey, who is mum to Tyler, 12, Lucas, eight, Maximus, 22 months, and Evelyn, 11 months, said: “I used to wake up so sluggish and it would get to about dinner time and I was so tired, I had no energy.
“Now I have just got so much energy. I wake up and I am looking forward to making my breakfast.
“Evelyn was born in January. I gained 13 pounds throughout my whole pregnancy. When I went back to group I had lost a total of 23 pounds!
“When I first went into lockdown I thought it would be three weeks, I treated it like a bit of a holiday. Once I realised it was a bit longer I got back on the plan 100%. The plan is so vital.
“I hit target in May during the lockdown.
“If I can do it anybody can.”
Lyndsey now runs her own Slimming World group at the Thornaby Family Hub on a Tuesday evening.
She said: “I think since doing Slimming World and being able to talk about it, it has brought the confidence out in me.
“It just became a passion.”
