A mum changed her lifestyle to lose more than 4st after she felt ‘unhealthy and sluggish’ – and now she’s about to launch her very own Slimming World group.
Tracy Grocott dropped four dress sizes, and went from a size 18 to a size 10 to 12 when she decided to alter her diet and go on lots of walks a couple of years ago.
The 42-year-old managed to lose 4st 4.5lbs with Slimming World in just twelve months and has now become a newly qualified consultant.
“In 2019 I was feeling really unhealthy and sluggish,” said Tracy. “I was always trying to make sure that my children were eating healthily, but I wasn’t really following my own advice.
“I can remember walking up the stairs at work and getting tired really easily. I wanted to change my life and feel stronger both physically and mentally.
“I had various things going on in my personal life, and you can’t control that, but I knew that one thing I could control was my weight and my diet, so I went to Noreen, my consultant, who I had known for a good few years.
“I was quite nervous when I went to group for the first time. It’s a big step and you do worry what people might think of you, but everyone is so welcoming.
“When you have a bad week, you need the support of your fellow members, so it’s so important to stay to group and take advantage of that support. Whether it’s in person or virtually, everyone is so supportive.”
Thanks to a supportive consultant and a welcoming group, Tracy was well on her way with her weight loss journey and explained what a typical day of eating on plan looks like for her.
“I like overnight oats for breakfast,” she added. “It’s a brilliant recipe and so easy – you just need to make sure you measure your oats for your healthy extra B choice. I’ll have that with a Muller light and some fruit.
“For lunch I like soup – some of my favourites are butternut squash and sweet potato – and in the evenings I’m quite basic and love filling up on speed food so I’ll have something like chicken or fish with vegetables. We also tried a lovely cottage pie recipe recently which was a Slimming World recipe and you wouldn’t know – it didn’t taste any different.”
Walks have been a great way for Tracy to keep her body and mind active both before and during the pandemic too.
“I’ve always been quite active, but lockdown walks have been great both physically and mentally,” explained Tracy.
“With Slimming World you’re encouraged to do your ‘body magic’ which is exercise, but you’re not expected to run a marathon. It’s about getting out and being as active as you can.
“Walks have definitely helped with my weight loss and it just feels so good to get out and stay active.”
Now Tracy is enjoying a happier, healthier life and even won Woman of the Year in her group. Now she is looking forward to supporting her very own members when she re-launches a group in Congleton.
“Now I’m much more confident – I did a live stream on my new Slimming World Facebook page which I would never have been brave enough to do before.
“But the most important thing is my health. I feel so much better in myself and I’ve got more energy now and I can get out with the kids and go for lots of walks with my partner.
“Slimming World has given me confidence and courage and really changed my life, so when Noreen told me that I should think of being a consultant, I knew deep down that I’d love to.
“It took a bit of time and research into it, and I spoke to my partner about it, because it’s such a big step. I knew that I could stand in front of people and have a natter with them every week, but there’s a lot more to it than that.
“I know that it will be really rewarding, so I decided to go for it and now I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’m most excited about getting to know my members and finding more about them and their own personal journeys, as well as them getting to know me and my story.”
Tracy is re-launching the Congleton Cricket Club 9am and 10am group online on January 26. For more information you can contact Tracy on 07771 923 618 or keep up with her Facebook page.
